An architect from CEPT University, Ahmedabad, Keta Shah is a founding partner at Workshop Inc. From architecture to objects, and from permanent spaces to temporary installations, the practice takes a consistent, holistic approach to architecture and design. Since its inception in 2014, their vision is to create spatial experiences that are authentic to the contemporary Indian context of overlaying cultural milieu with global aspirations. Workshop Inc. has worked across a range of projects in hospitality, commercial, healthcare and residential sectors across India. In a short span, the firm has won numerous awards and recognition for their projects.
What is good art according to you?
Art needs to connect the person who experiences it on an emotional level. Art that inspires, excites, intimidates, shocks, makes you happy or moves you in some way or the other can be considered as good and impactful art.
What role can art play in making a positive social impact? Would you contribute through your chosen area of expertise?
Art can help in spreading the right message to a larger audience, across barriers of language or geographical location. I can contribute by writing on art/ design and responding to queries related to the subject.
What are the three factors you respond to while deciding about the colour theme of a project?
Colour is most certainly the soul of any piece of architecture or design. The application of colours on surfaces and the message it conveys is of utmost importance in creating the psychological mood or ambiance that supports the function of a space. It helps in evoking a certain mood, or a certain characteristic of the space. The most crucial part regarding the use of colour in a spatial context is to decide the appropriate balance of dark and light, bright and muted tones within a space.

Becoming a WADE Woman is a matter of responsibility. What will be your area of contribution?
I look forward to setting up workshops and mentorship programmes that enable younger designers to gain insights from experienced professionals.
Your opinion on WADE ASIA and its objectives.
WADE is a wonderful initiative that celebrates the achievements of women designers in a male-dominated profession. It champions the cause of women supporting women to make a more inclusive work environment. Moreover, it is a great platform that makes us aware of the wonderful work being produced by women practitioners across the country.
Any suggestions for the future?
The panel discussions and the presentations were quite insightful. I just felt that the competition could have been better managed, looking forward to an impeccable event with more participants and presenters for the coming year!
