Gouri Deshpande, Studio G+A, Pune
Gouri Deshpande is the partner and principal architect at ‘Studio G+A’, Pune, practising in the field of architecture, interior and landscape design for the past four years. After completing her graduation in Architecture (B. Arch) from Dr. B. N. College of Architecture at Pune University in 2015, she started working as a junior architect at Varsha and Deepak Guggari Associates (VDGA), Pune. At VDGA, she got to learn detailing that undergoes during designing and execution stages. Gouri is a visiting design faculty at P.V.P College of Architecture, Pune. Apart from her passion towards the profession, Gouri is an avid reader and also enjoys listening to Indian classical music.
Do you think architecture has the power to build better communities? How?
Architecture has been an integral part of the evolution of civilisations since the very beginning. It is a medium which can bring the society together if planned carefully and sensitively. Spaces like public plazas help in creating the sense of community.
How has interactions with artists, architects and designers in WADE developed your perspective towards art and architecture?
I think WADE ASIA has given a wonderful platform to all the women-led design practices to showcase their contribution towards the field of art and design. Getting to know and interacting with so many contemporaries from all over Asia and studying their work was one of the highlights of WADE Asia.
How important it is to network for professionals?
Many of the times, the budding professionals don’t get enough exposure about contemporary practitioners, new technology and also new trends in the market. Events like WADE helps in networking among the design community.

As a WADE Winner, how would you contribute towards its causes and objectives?
As young practitioners in the field of architecture, we all can come together for the betterment of the society, addressing and working towards the women-centric issues sensitively.
Your takeaways from the conference:
I loved WADE ASIA that was focused on various working-women centric issues. Also, getting a chance to listen to eminent architects like Shirish Beri sir was a pure delight. WADE ASIA has created a platform which will help the women in Design and Architecture, gather, collaborate for the betterment of the community. I would like to congratulate the entire team of WADE for this grand success!
